FCC to Vote on Plan for Free Nationwide Wireless Internet

Authored by Mark Hefflinger on May 30, 2008 - 9:26am.

Washington - The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) could require the winner of a planned wireless spectrum auction to offer free wireless Internet service across a large portion of the country, the Associated Press reported. The network would be required to reach 95% of the U.S. population within a decade.

Though a similar proposal was rejected last year, the AP reported that the FCC once again will put the matter up for a vote during its meeting on June 12.

"We're hoping there will be increased interest," FCC spokesman Rob Kenny told the news organization.

"Because this will provide wireless broadband services to more Americans it is certainly something we want to see."

FCC Plans to Secure Broadband for the People of America

This would be a great win for the people of America. After the 1996 telecommunication Act was pushed through congress by special interest groups the public airwaves no longer belonged to the people. The spin machine of corporate media went right to work using a special blend of perception management to begin programming and mis-informing the masses. The same special interest groups are now trying to do the same thing with the internet. I hope that the FCC goes through with the plan to offer Broadband to 95% of the United States. This would be a great day for the people of the United States of America.
