Voom HD Claims $1B in Damages from DISH Network Exit

New York - Voom HD Networks, a suite of HD channels owned by Cablevision's (NYSE: CVC) Rainbow Media, has filed a complaint against satellite TV provider DISH Network (NASD: DISH) with the New York Supreme Court, claiming over $1 billion in damages in the wake of DISH's dropping Voom's channels from its service last month, Multichannel News reported.

The original complaint, which argues that DISH breached a 15-year carriage contract through false claims that Voom had violated the terms, was filed by Rainbow Media in January.

Under the terms of their deal, DISH was to pay Voom $3.25 per month for each HD subscriber; Voom claims that DISH's subscriber base was expected to surpass 11 million by the end of its contract.

For its part, DISH says Voom has not met its investment requirement for its service. Voom, whose only other distributor is parent company Cablevision, says it has already spent over $300 million on the offering.

I love voom HD and am upset!

I joined dish network because of Voom HD and now will likely cancel as their HD content is very low quality both in terms of programming content and clarity as much of it is up converted and not true HD as VOOM HD was!
