XM Settles Suit with EMI Over Radio with Recording Features

Authored by Mark Hefflinger on June 10, 2008 - 8:27am.

Washington - XM Satellite Radio (NASD: XMSR) said on Tuesday that it has agreed to settle a lawsuit brought against the company by major record label EMI Music over its portable satellite radio with advanced recording features.

The companies did not disclose terms of the agreement.

EMI originally filed suit against XM in 2006 over its Inno radio, which the labels argued overstepped copyrights by allowing users to record and replay songs heard on XM.

XM has reached similar deals in recent months with Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group (NYSE: WMG) and Sony (NYSE: SNE) BMG.

As in completely and utterly pathetic. EMI needs to take a long walk off a short cliff. I'm sick of hearing how record labels and their affiliated companies are trying to limit what you can and cannot do with music. If you pay to hear something on XM or Sirius then what you do with it after you hear it the first time is YOUR business not EMI's or anyone else's.
