Seattle - More than one in five (20.5%) of players of casual video games have a physical, mental or developmental disability -- compared with 15.1% of the overall U.S. population who are disabled -- according to a survey conducted by Information Solutions Group on behalf of casual games publisher PopCap Games.

More than 10% of these disabled casual game players said that the games were either prescribed or recommended by a doctor.

The majority (61%) of casual gamers with a physical disability are age 50 or older, while 52% of those with a developmental or learning disability are under 18.

Over two-thirds (69%) of disabled respondents were female, and 35% said they had another person assist them in completing the survey.

The report also found that those with disabilities play more frequently, for more hours per week, and for longer periods of time per gaming session.

Disabled gamers also reported experiencing more significant benefits from playing, and viewed gaming as a more important factor in their lives than do non-disabled consumers.
