McLean, Va. - Gannett (NYSE: GCI), the publisher of USA Today and 84 other daily newspapers, said on Thursday that it has acquired a minority stake in Seattle-based Cozi Group, the developer of a free Web service designed to help families manage schedules, share information and communicate.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Gannett plans to market the Cozi brand throughout its media channels, which also include hundreds of local web sites and 23 television stations.

Launched in the fall of 2006, Cozi now boasts more than 600,000 members. The site offers a central family calendar, customized shopping and to-do lists, a family blog and messaging tools.

"Our partnership powers a new platform to deliver our local content through a technology specifically designed for the family," said Michael Maness, Gannett's vice president of design and innovation.
