Beijing - Chinese video-sharing site Youku announced on Thursday that it has been granted an online video license from the State Administration of Radio, Film & Television (SAFRT).

Youku, along with fellow top Chinese video sites Tudou and 56.com, had been omitted from a group of over 200 sites that received licenses last month which the Chinese government said were necessary to continue operating.

Meanwhile, Tudou continues to operate unlicensed, while 56.com is believed to have been shut down by the government.

Youku last month raised $40 million in new financing, and also secured licenses from over 100 media partners.

The site claims to be the top video site in China, with 100 million unique monthly visitors.
