Riot Games Secures $7 Million for Premium Online Titles

Los Angeles - Riot Games, an independent developer focused on "premium online multiplayer session-based games with best-of-breed online services," announced on Thursday that it has secured a $7 million round of financing from Benchmark Capital and FirstMark Capital.

Los Angeles-based Riot Games was co-founded by Brandon Beck and Marc Merrill, previously a consultant at Bain & Company and corporate marketing manager at Advanstar Communications, respectively.

The company's team includes developers who have worked on titles including "Ultima Online," "Dungeon Siege" and "Heroes of Might & Magic."

Riot Games is also developing a technology platform that will integrate online services such as matchmaking, stat-tracking, ladders into its titles.

The company will announce details of its first title later this year.
