Comcast's thePlatform Buys Social Media Developer Chirp

Seattle - Broadband video management and publishing company thePlatform, a unit of Comcast (NASD: CMCSA), announced that it has acquired the assets of San Francisco-based Chirp Interactive, a provider of social media applications.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

While Chirp has launched applications that combine social networking with media consumption, thePlatform said it will not continue Chirp's existing services, but will instead build new community and content discovery features using Chirp technology into its media publishing system.

Seattle-based thePlatform provides online video publishing and management for customers including the BBC, CBS, CNBC, Gannett, PBS, Sony BMG, Hearst and Verizon Wireless.
