Los Angeles - Women now comprise 40% of U.S. video game players, while the average age of an American gamer has risen to 35, according to a survey conducted by Ipsos MediaCT for game industry trade group the Entertainment Software Association (ESA).

The survey found that 65% of U.S. households play computer and video games, and 38% own a video game console.

With the growing number of female gamers, the survey found that women age 18 or older now represent a significantly greater portion of the game-playing population (33%) than boys age 17 or younger (18%).

"This new data underscores the fundamental principle that computer and video games are a mainstream entertainment form, which captures the imagination of every segment of our society," said Michael D. Gallagher, CEO of the ESA.

"No longer is there a stereotypical gamer. With deeper market penetration and the broadening of our audience base, video games have incorporated themselves into America's cultural and social fabric."

This is false

Everyone knows there are no girls on the internet

to above statement: ur

to above statement: ur right, girls play single player games like sims to avoid getting pwned.

heh.

Guys are just to afraid to admit that women are actually be playing the same games as they are and are the ones pwning you. Don't assume that every person you're playing that MMO with is a guy!

Seriously?

I actually read somewhere that 60% of online players are female. This probably refers to the smaller online games. But I know there are girl MMO players. And I wouldn't be bragging about only playing with guys all day. You aren't expanding your horizon. I know lots of girl players who are way better then me. So get your head out of your ass and stop being the reason guy gamers have a bad wrap. People think we're losers who live in our mom's basement! So seriously stop.

^you said it^

and why do guys try to pick up girls on games it pointless and makes male gamers look desperate
