Studios Developing Legal Online Movie Search Engine

Los Angeles - The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) is working on a website and search feature that would direct users looking for movies online to legal outlets, including theater ticketing services, online DVD rental and retail services, and legal download services, Variety reports.

A studio source told Variety the search site is being developed in reaction to research that showed consumers are confused by the mix of legal and illegitimate means of finding movies online.

The site is expected to link to all legitimate partners, to possibly include companies like ticketseller Fandango, online DVD rental service Netflix, and Apple's iTunes Store.
