Washington - U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS) last week introduced a bill that would prohibit the sale rental of M-rated video games to minors, as well as ban the sale of games that do not have age-based content ratings, GamePolitics reported.

A similar measure, the Video Games Rating Enforcement Act, was introduced in the U.S. House last week by Rep. Lee Terry (R-Nebr.) and Rep. Jim Matheson (D-Utah).

GamePolitics noted that all three lawmakers are running for re-election this year.

Numerous similar laws passed by states and other municipalities have been routinely thrown out by the courts as unconstitutional restrictions on free speech.
