New York - Following an unsuccessful foray into the MP3 player market in 2003, Dell (NASD: DELL) is planning to release a new line of portable digital music players and an accompanying subscription service as early as September, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The new players are expected to feature Wi-Fi connectivity and retail for under $100.

They will also likely feature software from Zing, a Wi-Fi music player firm acquired last year by Dell.

The company's Dell DJ line of MP3 players, designed by Creative, first went on sale in 2003 and was discontinued by mid-2006.
