Activision Doubles Quarterly ProfitsAuthored by Jay Baage on August 1, 2008 - 8:45am.
Santa Monica, Calif. - Video game publisher Activision Blizzard (NASD: ATVI) saw its revenue increase by 34% and profits more than double in the last quarter. The increased profits can be partly explained by the success of two new Guitar Hero titles as well as a Kung Fu Panda game - the company's biggest launch yet for a game based on a DreamWorks Animation movie under a licence agreement. For the current quarter, its first post-merger quarter with Vivendi Games, the company says that it is expecting $636 million in revenue and a net loss of 26¢ per share, mainly due to merger costs and losses from Vivendi Games businesses it plans to exit.
