Report: EA's "Dark Knight" Video Game is M.I.A.

Los Angeles - The Associated Press this week reported on the odd lack of a simultaneously released video game based on the blockbuster Batman film "The Dark Knight," an absence that could be costing Electronic Arts (NASD: ERTS), the publisher commissioned to create the game, and Warner Bros. (NYSE: TWX) the studio that released the film, as much as $100 million in sales.

EA's Pandemic Studio has indeed been working on a "Dark Knight" game, but any details on the title have been scant, and no one from EA, Pandemic or Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment would comment for AP.

The article cites speculation that "missed deadlines, Heath Ledger's death, questionable quality and poor sales projections" could be factors in the game's absence.

By comparison, the game based on "Transformers" -- released alongside the film -- sold 2.6 million copies, while the "Spider-Man III" game sold 2.1 million.
