London - Project Kangaroo, a TV video-on-demand joint venture proposed between U.K. broadcasters BBC, ITV and Channel 4 that was slated to launch in the fourth quarter, has seen its launch date delayed while the U.K. Competition Commission extends its probe of the service.

The regulatory body said it expects to receive the additional information from the companies it is seeking by early September, with the investigation now expected to conclude in mid-January 2009.

"The issues statement should not be seen as implying that the CC has identified any competition concerns -- the CC has yet to reach any conclusions on this inquiry," the Competition Commission said in a statement.

Project Kangaroo will allow U.K. residents to view both recently-aired programs and archived content from the three broadcasters.
