Beijing - NBC Universal (NYSE: GE) has announced record traffic to its NBCOlympics.com website, which counted over 70 million page views on Friday, the first days of the games -- up from the peak traffic day during the Athens games four years ago (20.6 million).

On Saturday, the first day of competition, the site served 3.1 million video streams and 62.7 million page views, compared with 115,000 video streams and 10.9 million page views at the Athens games in 2004.

All this, despite the fact that NBC did not have the entire opening ceremony available on its site until Monday morning, PaidContent noted.

On the broadcast side, NBC said it saw the best-ever ratings for a non-U.S. opening ceremony on Friday.

In two days, TV coverage has attracted a record 114 million total viewers, which is four million more than were counted at this point during the 1996 Atlanta games -- the highest-rated in history -- and 20 million more than had watched the Athens games by this point in the games.
