Allman Bros. Sue Universal Music Over Unpaid Digital Royalties

New York - Veteran rockers The Allman Brothers Band has filed a lawsuit against Universal Music Group, seeking over $10 million in what the band says are unpaid royalties from sales of their CDs and digital downloads, Reuters reported.

The band maintains that, under a 1985 agreement with its label Polygram -- which was later acquired by Universal -- it would be paid half of profits from the sale of its records by any third parties, which it takes to include Apple's iTunes.

The lawsuit, which includes albums released between 1969 and 1980, says that Universal has paid only a fraction of what the band is owed, and has refused to renegotiate royalties for downloads and ringtones.

Reuters said Universal Music Group was not available for comment on the lawsuit.
