Los Angeles - Vongo, the Web video-on-demand service launched by Liberty Media's (NASD: LINTA) Starz unit back in 2006, is being shut down at the end of next month, according to a note on the website.

The Vongo site is directing users to Starz Play, a white-label version of essentially the same service, which it launched with partner Verizon in May.

"We felt like the upside for us from a business standpoint was to wholesale it to affiliates," a Starz spokesperson told PaidContent.

While Vongo offered unlimited access to 3,500 videos, as well as a Starz TV streaming channel, for $9.99 per month, Starz Play offers all of Vongo's functionality -- with the exception of pay-per-view movies -- for $5.99 per month.
