Minneapolis - Consumer electronics and media retail store
chain Best Buy (NYSE: BBY) announced on Wednesday that it has struck a deal with Apple (NASD: AAPL) to
become the first third-party retailer to sell the iPhone 3G in its stores. Best
Buy will begin selling the iPhone 3G, which will still require a two-year
contract with AT&T (NYSE: T), on Sept. 7 from its 970 U.S. stores.
The deal expands on Apple's
existing relationship with Best Buy, which already sells both iPods and Macs.
To
this point, the iPhone had only been available for purchase from Apple or
AT&T retail stores.
