Arlington, Va. - The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) said that it has teamed with CBS-owned (NYSE: CBS) technology media firm CNET to launch new indexes measuring consumers' confidence about the economy and expectations about consumer electronics and technology.

The organizations said that their CEA-CNET Index of Consumer Expectations (ICE) and Index of Consumer Technology Expectations (ICTE) will be updated on a monthly basis through consumer surveys.

"For the first time, we have a tool that allows economists and business leaders to track a sector that is expected to exceed $173 billion in U.S. factory sales this year," said Claudia Haase, the director of research at CNET.
