Netanya, Israel - Mobile TV chipmaker Siano Mobile Silicon announced on Wednesday that it has secured $17.5 million in a third round of funding, led by DFJ Tamir Fishman Ventures.

Previous investors JVP, Star Ventures, Walden Israel, Bessemer Venture Partners and Inventec Appliances also participated in the round, which brings Siano's total funding raised to date to $52 million.

Israel-based Siano's chips support mobile TV standards including DVB-T, DVB-H, T-DMB and ISDB-T, and are currently being used in phones broadcasting mobile TV coverage of the Olympics in China.

"The consumer market is now starting to fulfill the vision that gave birth to Siano back in 2004, namely that within just a few years, practically every single non-tethered consumer device with a color LCD would include digital TV function," said Siano CEO Alon Ironi.

"We are witnessing massive embedding of our products into a surprisingly wide range of devices, from mobile phones and notebooks to navigation devices, portable media players and even boom-boxes and digital photo frames."

The company will use the funds for research and development; to expand its sales and customer support facilities; and to build adequate silicon inventory to match increasing demand.
