Dulles, Va. - Two weeks after initial reports surfaced about the deal, Colorado-based Socialthing has confirmed its acquisition by AOL (NYSE: TWX).

Socialthing is the developer of a social networking news feed service designed to help users trace the Internet activity of friends.

Socialthing, which has been operating in private beta mode since last year, reportedly raised $300,000 in funding last fall.

The news follows AOL's recent launch of AIM BuddyUpdates, which lets users of the company's AIM instant messenger follow the activity of their buddy list members on social networking sites.

"We have a really cool opportunity ahead of us to integrate into some other AOL products that might change the way you see social aggregation. AIM is a really big target for us, both on the aggregation and on the publishing side," wrote Matt Galligan, the company's co-founder and CEO, in a blog post.
