Report: Bono Alleged Source of Unreleased U2 Song Leaks

Authored by Mark Hefflinger on August 18, 2008 - 9:04am.

London - U2 frontman Bono is allegedly the source of an online leak of four songs from the band's forthcoming album, after a passerby overheard him blasting the music from his villa in the South of France and recorded the tracks, according to a report in The Sun.

The unidentified fan later posted the tracks onto YouTube, but said tracks -- "No Line on the Horizon," "Sexy Boots," "Moment of Surrender" and "For Your Love" -- no longer appear to be available on the site.

U2 manager Paul McGuinness is an outspoken critic of illegal music downloading, advocating for ISPs to ban users who engaged in piracy.

Not quite the source

The person who recorded the songs outside of Bono's villa is technically the source. How on earth would anybody expect somebody to stand outside with quality enough recording equipment to capture music being played in a house, no matter how loud. To be honest it is pretty creepy that somebody would stand outside a house, even Bono's, with that kind of equipment. Referring to Bono as the source makes it sound like he was the one who uploaded the content onto the Web.

Not even close

Completely agree with Nancy. It is reprehensible that DMW would "pass through" such a misleading and sensationalist headline and link to a source so totally lacking in journalistic integrity as the SUN newspaper. You have lowered yourselves just a bit to far on this one folks...
