Los Angeles - The National Basketball Association (NBA) plans to begin offering live streaming of games in local markets this fall, Sports Business Journal reported. The league will allow team to offer streaming, interactive TV and video-on-demand coverage to users in local markets at the outset of the 2008-2009 season in late October.

The decision will no doubt be controversial among the NBA's broadcast partners, and the league has reportedly not yet decided whether to charge for the streams or allow users to view them for free.

Geo-location technology will be used to ensure that only local users will be able to view the new NBA online video content.
