Washington - The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has indicated that it would not challenge a combination of video game publishers Electronic Arts (NASD: ERTS) and Take-Two Interactive (NASD: TTWO), Reuters reported.

"Upon further review of this matter, it now appears that no additional action by the commission is warranted at this time. Accordingly, the investigation has been closed," reads a note on the FTC's website.

EA on Monday allowed its $2 billion hostile bid for Take-Two -- publisher of the "Grand Theft Auto" series -- to expire, but the two companies have indicated that they have entered talks on a possible combination.
