Report: Japan Sees Digital Music Sales Growth in Q2

Tokyo - Digital music sales in Japan during the second quarter grew 28% to $204.8 million, while total unit sales were up 7% to 119 million, Billboard reported, citing data from the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ).

Full-track mobile downloads were up 42% year-over-year to 36.3 million units, generating $108.7 million, while PC-based paid downloads were up 52%, to 10.3 million units ($20.3 million).

In the ringtone department, master recording ringtone sales were down 17% from a year ago, to 45.5 million ($45.7 million), while ringback tone sales climbed 11% to 23.9 million units ($18.1 million).
