Helsinki, Finland - Supponor, a provider of digital billboard sports advertising, announced on Wednesday that it has raised $8.8 million in its first round of venture capital, led by Northzone Ventures and previous backer Conor Venture Partners.

Finland-based Supponor develops dynamic digital billboards that can be placed within sports broadcasts.

"There are already several players in the market that produce digital content and place it on top of the television picture," said Supponor CEO Juha Ruohonen.

"The unique advantage of DBRLive is that digital ads are placed exactly on top of real-world billboards, which allows advertisers to reach their desired target groups without a risk of being blamed invasive or intrusive."

The company will use the funds to launch its service in Europe and the U.S., and said it is currently negotiating with several sports event organizers and television rights holders there.
