San Francisco - Webcarzz, a San Francisco-based developer and publisher of multiplayer online games, said on Thursday that it has landed $4 million in its first round of funding, led by Meakem Becker Venture Capital.

The company said that it will use the proceeds to develop, launch and market its upcoming casual multiplayer online game.

Webcarzz said that the game, being developed in partnership with MCS Games, will offer a social space in which users can engage in play with others, but doesn't require fixed play patterns or skill levels for success.

"With over 300 million online gamers today, the time is ripe for virtual worlds and multiplayer online games," said Chris Bergstresser, the CEO of Webcarzz.

"Together with MCS Games, we are creating a very unique and highly engaging online destination aimed at a very specific and underserved market segment."
