Tokyo - Microsoft (NASD: MSFT) has joined a dozen other companies investing in the first 24-hour, English-language TV network in Japan, to be launched by broadcaster NHK in February, according to Thomson Financial, which cited a report in the local Nikkei newspaper.

Along with Microsoft, NTT Communications, Itochu Corp., Nippon Television Network, Mizuho Corporate Bank and others will each hold stakes of 5% or less in the company, while NHK will own 60% of the venture.

The TV channel is expected to also be made available in North America, Europe and other regions, while Microsoft and NTT will work with NHK to make the network's content available online.
