Michael Moore to Distribute Next Film Online for FreeAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on September 5, 2008 - 9:11am.
Traverse City,
Mich. - Filmmaker Michael Moore
("Bowling for Columbine," "Fahrenheit 9/11,"
"Sicko") announced this week that he will release his next film
exclusively online for free.
The feature-length "Slacker Uprising," tracing Moore's 62-city tour of swing states during the 2004 election, will be made available as a free download on Sept. 23. The download is being organized and distributed by fellow filmmaker Robert Greenwald's Brave New Films, and will be hosted at Blip.tv. Moore said he plans no theatrical release for the movie, "no DVD release (at first), no TV airing, and not a streaming video (like on YouTube) -- just a completely free, download-it-and-you-own-it first-run movie." "This is being done entirely as a gift to my fans," said Moore. "The only return any of us are hoping for is the largest turnout of young voters ever at the polls in November. I think 'Slacker Uprising' will inspire million to get off the couch and give voting a chance."
