Google to Sell TV Ads for NBC Universal NetworksAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on September 9, 2008 - 9:08am.
Mountain View,
Calif. - NBC Universal (NYSE: GE) announced
on Tuesday that it has formed a multi-year advertising, research and technology
pact with Google (NASD: GOOG), and will sell ad time on some of its cable networks via
Google's TV Ads platform.
"With the addition of NBC Universal inventory, advertisers using the Google TV Ads platform can reach NBCU Cable's national audience and gain access to viewership data at an unprecedented scale," the companies said in a statement. Google will sell ads for NBC-owned Sci Fi, Oxygen, MSNBC, CNBC, Sleuth, and Chiller networks. An established partnership between Google and satellite TV operator DISH Network provides second-by-second set-top box data via the TV Ads platform, which advertisers may use to more precisely measure viewership. Google and NBC said they will also work to adapt TV Ads for local markets, and jointly develop custom marketing and research projects using the Google TV Ads platform.
