Finetunes Says Last.fm Using Unlicensed Songs, Seeks Damages

London - Finetunes, a Germany-based digital music distributor, has sent a cease-and-desist letter to social music discovery service Last.fm, alleging the company is streaming songs that it is not authorized to offer, the company tells Billboard.

Finetunes has demanded that Last.fm remove tracks from a number of German independent labels from its service, compensate the company for past uses, and cease offering any of its 200,000 tracks.

Should Last.fm fail to comply, Finetunes said it would file suit against the company.

For its part, London-based Last.fm, a unit of CBS (NYSE: CBS), declined to comment on the matter for Billboard.
