Arlington, Va. - Just five months until the required transition of TV stations from analog to digital signals, the vast majority of U.S. consumers are now aware of the pending switch, according to new figures from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA).

The industry group said that 86% of consumers now claim to be aware of the transition, up 12% since the beginning of this year.

The CEA attributes the growth to ongoing joint educational efforts involving the government and private sector entities.

In addition, nearly one-third of households using an antenna on at least one television already have applied for their government-subsidized converter box coupon, with another 37% planning to request their coupon within the year.
