NY Times Co. Revenues Down 8.8% in August; Internet Up 6%

New York - The New York Times Co. (NYSE: NYT) announced on Thursday that its total revenues in August decreased 8.8% compared with the same month a year ago, with advertising revenues down 14.1% and circulation revenues up 0.9%.

The company's total Internet revenues, meanwhile, grew 6% and Internet advertising revenues increased 10.9% in August.

Its Internet businesses include NYTimes.com, About.com, Boston.com and other company websites.

The company had the 12th largest presence on the Web, with 48.8 million unique visitors in the United States in August 2008 according to Nielsen Online.

That is up about 10% from 44.2 million unique visitors in August 2007.
