Interactive TV Firm OpenTV Acquires Australia's Ruzz TV

San Francisco - OpenTV (NASD: OPTV), a provider of interactive TV software and services, announced on Tuesday that it has acquired Ruzz TV, an Australia-based provider of software for television broadcasters.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Founded in 1999, Ruzz provides software used by broadcasters to manage the assembly and transmission of the stream of pictures and sounds that are broadcast to television viewers, from scheduling and sales, to acquisition, production, assembly, play-out, transmission and distribution.

"With this acquisition, we are excited to complement our products and offer broadcasters around the world the right components to manage their workflow and content processes quickly and efficiently," said OpenTV CEO Ben Bennett.

San Francisco-based OpenTV's set-top box middleware is deployed on more than 111 million devices worldwide.
