Miami, Fla. - The Florida Supreme Court this week permanently disbarred Miami attorney Jack Thompson, a vocal critic of violence in video games who had specifically targeted Take-Two Interactive (NASD: TTWO) and its "Grand Theft Auto" franchise.

The court said that Thompson repeatedly made false statements and accusations, including alleging a judge was "amenable to the 'fixing' of cases," and that various attorneys and their clients engaged in "the criminal distribution of sexual material to minors."

A referee of the court noted in a report on Thompson that, "over a very extended period of time involving a number of totally unrelated cases and individuals, [r]espondent has demonstrated a pattern of conduct to strike out harshly, extensively, repeatedly and willfully to simply try to bring as much difficulty, distraction and anguish to those he considers in opposition to his causes."

Thompson also had his license to practice law in the state of Alabama revoked back in 2005, after his antics as lead attorney in a lawsuit filed by the families of police officers killed by a man who claimed inspiration from "Grand Theft Auto."

Among his other legal campaigns against video game violence, Thompson attempted to have Take-Two's "Grand Theft Auto" games declared a 'public nuisance' in Florida.
