San Francisco - Major record label Universal Music Group is developing an online hub for music videos that will be similar in scope to Hulu, the website joint venture of News Corp. and NBC Universal that streams a range of TV shows and movies from its partners, CNET News.com reported, citing a source close to the company.

More than half of the 20 top-viewed videos of all time on YouTube are music videos, and Universal Music's YouTube channel is the most popular of all on the site, having generated 2.6 billion views over the past year.

The story did not say whether Universal would seek to partner with other labels on the site, which would show music videos and other original programming featuring Universal label artists.

CNET noted that Hulu offers both higher-resolution video than YouTube, and is reportedly selling ads against 100% of its content, compared with about 3% for YouTube.
