Grapevine, Texas - Video game retail store chain GameStop (NYSE: GME) announced on Wednesday that it has acquired French game retail chain Micromania from private equity fund L Capital for $700 million.

Texas-based GameStop said it intends to fund the transaction -- which includes the assumption of debt -- through cash on hand, a draw on its existing revolving credit facility, and a $150 million committed term loan from Bank of America.

Founded in 1983, Micromania is France's largest game retailer with 332 stores.

GameStop will add Micromania's locations in France to its stable of 5,889 locations worldwide.

The company now operates over 1,000 stores in Europe, including locations in France, Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Spain and Portugal.
