"Slacker Uprising" Hits BitTorrent; Targeted for Takedown

Los Angeles - Lawyers representing Westside Productions, owners of the copyrights to Michael Moore's new documentary "Slacker Uprising," have sent a takedown notice seeking to have the film -- which Moore offered for free download to users in the U.S. and Canada -- removed from a BitTorrent file-sharing hub, TorrentFreak reported.

Moore released the film for free download on Sept. 23, calling it "a gift to my fans," but took steps so that only users in the U.S. and Canada could access the download.

Shortly after its release, the film turned up on Sweden-based BitTorrent tracker BTJunkie.

However, Westside Prouctions' attorneys sent their request for takedown under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) to easyDNS, the tracker's Canada-based domain name provider.

TorrentFreak reports that that takedown notice has since been rescinded, while BTJunkie has not yet received one.
