Sunnyvale, Calif. - Shares of Yahoo (NASD: YHOO) jumped more than 10% on Thursday, following remarks by Microsoft (NASD: MSFT) CEO Steve Ballmer that some believe could signal his company's renewed interest in a deal for Yahoo.

Speaking at a technology conference in Orlando, Ballmer said that such a deal "would make sense economically."

In a statement, however, a Microsoft spokesman said that "there are no discussions between the companies."

Earlier this year, Yahoo rejected Microsoft's $33-a-share takeover bid. Yahoo's shares closed at $12.99 on Thursday.
