San Francisco - Twitter, the San Francisco-based social networking and micro-blogging service that lets users post text-based messages of up to 140 characters in length, said that it has replaced CEO Jack Dorsey with Evan Williams, its co-founder, chairman and chief product officer. Dorsey, also a co-founder, will assume the role of chairman. "Healthy companies acknowledge the need for change even during the best of times," Williams wrote in the company's blog. "As Twitter grows both internally and externally, we took a good look at our path forward and saw the need for a focused approach from a single leader."
