Los Angeles - Legendary Pictures, a film financing company whose recent releases include "300" and "The Dark Knight," is in talks to acquire Epic Games, a developer of video games including top-seller "Gears of War," Variety reports.

Legendary would be the first film financing company to invest in a video game developer; Thomas Tull, the head of the company, recently resigned from the board of Brash Entertainment, a game studio he co-founded.

Variety noted that in addition to developing games, North Carolina-based Epic also derives a good deal of its revenue licensing its Unreal game engine.

Silicon Alley Insider sees a bevy of game-worthy movies in Legendary's upcoming production slate, which includes "Ninja Assassin" (2009), "Where the Wild Things Are" (2009), "Clash of the Titans" (2010) and "Superman: Man of Steel" (2011).
