New York - TuneCore, a service that provides digital distribution for independent artists' music through online retailers like iTunes and Amazon MP3, has raised $7 million in new funding from Opus Capital.

Founded in 2005, New York-based TuneCore does not take a cut of sales, but charges artists an upfront $32 fee to distribute their music, videos and other content to digital retailers.

The company says its artist clients put out 150 to 250 releases through its service daily, and that it has to date generated over $15.5 million in sales.

Artists using the service include Jay-Z, David Byrne, Nine Inch Nails, Paul Westerberg, MGM Studios, Bjork, Moby, Cirque Du Soleil, Rockstar Games and MGMT.
