Seattle - RealNetworks (NASD: RNWK) announced a net loss of $4.5 million for the third quarter, compared to a net income of $4.3 million in the same period a year ago, despite posting revenue gains in both its music and games businesses.

The company said overall revenue was up 5% to $152 million; music revenues were up 10% to $41.6 million, and games revenues were up 19% to $34.2 million.

Real also said it still intends to spin off its casual games division into a separate company, but cited "the macro economic environment and current capital-markets disarray" for its decision to put off the move until at lest next year.

The company also named a new president for its games division, John Barbour, who previously served as president of retailer Toys 'R' Us' operations in the U.S.
