AT&T Testing Bandwidth Cap for Broadband Subscribers

San Antonio, Texas - AT&T (NYSE: T) has begun a test that will cap the amount of bandwidth its broadband customers may consume monthly before being charged for extra usage.

Depending on the plan to which they are subscribed, AT&T subscribers will be able to consume between 20 GB and 150 GB per month; should they exceed this limit, they will be charged $1 for every extra gigabyte they consume.

Customers will be given a one-month grace period before the fees are imposed.

AT&T's testing began this month with customers in Reno, Nev. Other broadband providers have also recently begun setting bandwidth caps, including Comcast and Time Warner Cable.
