Santa Monica, Calif. - Ascent Media, a provider of creative and technical services to the media and entertainment industries, announced on Thursday that it has acquired the encoding and media services division of Sample Digital.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Santa Monica, Calif.-based Ascent counts more than 40 facilities that provide services to movie studios, independent producers, broadcast and cable networks, ad agencies and other firms.

Ascent said it plans to relocate Sample's Hollywood-based encoding and media division employees to its Burbank facility.

Sample will continue to focus on its primary business, production workflow and set-top box applications and services.
