Comcast's CN8 Network to Lay Off Most Employees

Authored by Mark Hefflinger on November 6, 2008 - 10:01am.

Washington - Amid lower-than-expected ratings, cable giant Comcast (NASD: CMCSA) plans to lay off most of the 300 employees working for its CN8 network, the Associated Press reported.

The network, which reaches more than 8 million households in the Northeast, plans to cease broadcasting in New England, but continue in other markets, including DC and Baltimore.

It also plans to retain its current offices in DC and Philadelphia.

The job cuts are expected to take affect in January. CN8 primarily broadcasts public affairs and community programming.

Let Comcast and others blow all the advertisers trust!

I don't have the time to offer detail, data, or my logic to why this CN8 was S$%*!! I think Comcast really thought they understood programming. I will also state for the record that very few networks, cable outlets and FOR SURE INTERNET portals understand live music shows. Am I gonna have to spend the rest of my life watching attempt after attempt of these EX-ABC, EX-GOOGLE, EX-AOL, EX-TURNER big wigs go out and try to produce a live music show with their options cash? Here is the most missed audience and service to artist that advertisers actually support (in bad times) and it is left dead. CN8 sucks! AT&T Blue Room sucks, Control Room blows, AOL Network Live sucks! Will someone please read this and call me tomorrow to discuss not what advertisers want, but what music fans want. That is the path to advertisers! Loyal fans! Politics and bean counters should have no say in what can start a WOW Factor!

Last thing keeping me on Comcast

Now I don't have any reason to switch over to Verizon. The local sports and especially college hockey games were the only thing keeping me on Comcast. This makes the decision to switch a whole lot easier for me. I know that might seem odd that this was the reason I was staying, but what can I say - it's true.

It always cracked me up to

It always cracked me up to watch the CN8 commercials, with the various show hosts being presented as if they were from a real national network or something. I don't think I'd be bragging if my "television host" employer was a freakin cable-TV company...LOL! What's next? The Verizon TV network? AT&T-TV? Wow, a whole group of "TV people" who couldn't get a job on a real network, and saying things like "...Lynn Doyle, for eleven years running"...hahaha! So she couldn't get a real job with a real network for eleven years running. Comcast Network? It even sounds like a cartoon....sheesh.

Comcast sucks.

Im glad the toilets been flushed. Years of commitment and now you get to suck eggs. LOLOLOL
