Agoura Hills, Calif. - Video game publisher THQ (NASD: THQI) on Thursday announced it will lay off 250 employees, or about 17% of its studio staff, as part of a restructuring plan that comes as the company posted a loss of $115.3 million for the quarter ended Sept. 30.

The Agoura Hills, Calif.-based company also canceled several titles in development, and pushed back the release dates of others, including "Red Faction: Guerilla" and "Darksiders: Wrath of War."

THQ blamed its poor quarterly results on lackluster sales of its "WALL-E" video game, higher-than-expected returns, and the rising strength of the dollar.

THQ also lowered its revenue forecast for the year to between $875 and $900 million, down from a previous estimate of $1.14 billion to $1.18 billion.
