Venice, Calif. - Mogreet, a provider of video messaging technology for mobile phones, announced on Thursday that it has raised $5 million in its second round of financing.

New investors included Ascend Ventures, Black Diamond Ventures and Spyglass Ventures; previous backer DFJ Frontier also participated in the round, which will be used to expand its large-scale premium video messaging platform.

Founded in 2006, Venice, Calif.-based Mogreet enables mobile phone users to send a "Mogreet," or short video message, as an MMS or SMS message for birthdays, holidays, special events and other purposes.

Charges for sending Mogreets range from $0.49 to $0.99 each.
