New York - Mobile content distributor Thumbplay has laid executed a round of layoffs, which one source told Silicon Alley Insider constituted 25% of staff, while a spokesperson countered the percentage to be "measurably lower."

"While difficult, these personnel decisions recognize the realities of the economy," CEO Are Traasdahl told SAI in a statement, adding, "We are on track to exceed our year-over-year revenue growth in 2008 by more than 50% over 2007, and even by conservative estimates, '09 will be another solid growth year."

New York-based Thumbplay, which raised $18 million in funding in March, counts content partnerships with the major record labels, and distributors including Comcast.
